TITLE: Structural Designer I
OVERVIEW: The Structural Designer provides expertise and support in a variety of areas including:
Being a knowledgeable Structural Designer, adhering to company, department, and client drawing standards and procedures, and having a general understanding of required structural calculations.
Following procedures and collaborating to prepare design deliverables that meet project requirements under general supervision of the Structural Engineer.
Remaining continually vigilant in finding opportunities to improve quality and efficiency.
Using data from mechanical and electrical disciplines, as well as client and vendor information sources to prepare structural drawings.
Designing a variety of industrial projects with extensive, basic use of Revit.
Having a working knowledge of structural materials, construction methods, and applicable building codes.
REPORTS TO: Chief Structural Engineer
Proactively communicate and coordinate design work within the department, and with other disciplines.
Work with other designers and engineers as team member on projects.
Participate in project and interdepartmental meetings to facilitate successful completion of projects and to meet customer expectations and needs.
Have awareness of project budgets and schedules.
Participate in project SMACC reviews.
Understand and apply concerns of safety, maintenance, accessibility, constructability, and coordination.
Learn company’s current design software.
Contribute, under the direction of structural engineer or senior designer, to the production of typical project deliverables.
Establish and utilize an appropriate level of detail between modeling and drafting.
Accurately incorporate information from mechanical and electrical equipment vendor drawings into final deliverables.
Enter structural information necessary to produce detailed drawings.
Accurately size, locate, dimension, and tag structural members and components on structural drawings.
Issue and record drawing submittals and revisions.
Participate and present at monthly Autodesk User Group meetings.
Check your design and drafting against red marks for errors, omissions, and adherence to company standards.
Follow structural drafting and design standards and production methods to ensure best practices, efficiency, and consistency.
Understand usage for structural connections, and other typical details.
Increase knowledge of structural codes including the IBC, ASCE, AISC, and ACI.
Continuously update and expand knowledge of the structural field as well as knowledge of client processes and facilities.
Associate Degree in Design Drafting or equivalent education and experience.
Minimum 2 years’ experience in structural design drafting with heavy industrial experience preferred.
Experience producing models and documents from Revit, plus experience with AutoCAD and Office software.
Excellent communication skills with an understanding of teamwork and the requisite ability to coordinate work with internal and external project stakeholders.
Strong organization skills to effectively manage time and resources in the most efficient manner. The ability to multi-task on several projects and adapt to changing scope and deadlines. Diligent taking of notes during project discussions. Efficient and organized email communications.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Generally, the position requires proficient computer skills with extended periods of six to eight hours sitting and entering data into a computer with intense attention to detail.
Occasional lifting on the job is generally limited to moving computers, scanners, manuals, or files whose length and size cause them to be clumsy to move around, and whose weight is usually under 30 lb.
