DETAIL DESIGN OF MECHANICAL, STRUCTURAL, AND ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS

To improve the quality of their raw mix feed, a Midwest cement producer required upgrades to their alumina clay and sandstone feed system. The upgrades included replacement of their existing hopper with a front-end loader fed dump hopper discharging to a weigh feeder. The feeder feeds a new dual roll crusher. Crushed material is transfer to an existing feed belt conveyor via a new belt conveyor. The existing feed belt conveyor was modified and a new diverter discharges material into one of two new storage bins located in an existing transfer tower. The existing transfer towers are from the early 1900’s and presented challenges in terms of tight confines and structural upgrades required relative to new loads and design codes. New weigh feeders at the discharge of bins transfers material to the existing (modified) mill feed conveyor. An essential element of the project’s smooth construction was our use of laser scanning to ensure all existing conditions were captured, modeled, and considered in the design. SMACC™ reviews at key design milestones facilitated recognition and incorporation of all Safety, Maintenance, Access, Constructability, and Coordination items in alignment with Monarch’s project goals.
