Additives Bins Replacement

DETAIL DESIGN OF MECHANICAL, STRUCTURAL, AND ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS

In 2018, our client identified a need to improve the reliability and performance of their additives processing system. This resulted in the decision to replace their additives storage bins as well as the associated feed and discharge systems. Industrial Ally was responsible for the Mechanical, Structural, and Electrical detailed design of the Chalk, White Sand and Limestone storage bins, hanging hoppers for each bin, discharge interface of the hanging hoppers and weigh feeders, and a new feed system to the White Sand Bin. Weekly progress and coordination telecon meetings were held with the client's staff throughout the project to update and coordinate the design progress between their personnel. Industrial Ally had significant collaboration with the weigh feeder manufacturer to ensure proper interface between the bin discharges and weigh feeders. The project had numerous challenges related to incorporation of the new systems into the existing additives processing structure and effectively interfacing with existing equipment. Additionally, several scope changes necessitated by the owner required late stage design elements to be added to the overall detailed design. Essential in managing the project through these challenges, and to capture an accurate representation of existing conditions, was to establish the project baseline with laser scanning and subsequent 3D modeling. Safety, Maintenance, Access, Constructability, and Interference Check (SMACC™) reviews at the 0%, 30% and 75% point of detailed design completion ensured all scope changes were captured and detailed as planned.
