Mill Conversion Detailed Design

This Project consisted of detailed Engineering Support for conversion of a raw mill to a finish mill for a cement client in the Eastern United States. FLSmidth was selected to provide equipment and engineering for the project. FLS enlisted Industrial Ally to develop the structural engineering required for the project. To ensure smooth construction we employed our laser scanner to capture existing conditions and, via development of a 3D model, incorporated and considered that data in our design. The design included extensive retrofit of the existing mill building. This included vibration analysis for the new separator and bag house fan. Support for a new tripper conveyor was also designed along with supports for nuisance ductwork, process ductwork, and piping. Our scope also included the engineering of a new cement feed to storage piping system. We participated in weekly telecon meetings with their staff to update and coordinate the design progress. Additionally, we were the primary interface with the local municipality to secure the project construction permit. SMACC™ reviews at key design milestones ensured recognition and incorporation of all Safety, Maintenance, Access, Constructability, and Coordination items in alignment with the projects goals.
