Detail Design of Mechanical, Structural, and Electrical Systems

A need for additional finish grinding and expanded cement loading capacity led this Midwest cement producer to evaluate numerous concepts until deciding on a new 55tph modular vertical roller mill system coupled with two new 2,000 ton reinforced concrete cement silos. We were responsible for all project detail engineering including clinker and additive feed transport to the new mill, cement cooling, cement transport to the existing and new cement silos, and a new SSL truck loadout system. We also provided detailed input to the mill manufacturer to ensure the modular mill system was in compliance with US code and safety requirements Electrical work associated with the project included two prefabricated buildings housing the systems electrical and control system hardware. The challenges faced due to congestion between existing and new equipment was successfully mitigated by use of our laser scanning to capture the details of all existing conditions, 3D Modeling – and SMACC™ reviews at key design milestones to ensure recognition and incorporation of all Safety, Maintenance, Access, Constructability, and Coordination items in alignment with our client's project goals.
